Delusion Doesn’t Work
Nothing connects with human hopes and aspirations like the creative arts; especially through music and video. For more than a century now, this type of media has played a major part in our culture. Along with newer technological advances, it has shaped our culture. Shaping our culture meant shaping us. We were given images of life, and role models that most adopted as their goals, and what one should do with themselves. The things that we should pursue were laid out before us, if we could obtain the means to do so. If we had not the means, then we would dream; and thereby be taken to other dimensions. An example of this is seen in the singer that crooned about his “dream lover”.
Why Couldn’t We Just Stay Together?
In most cases, “falling in love” was the main “carrot on the stick” being promoted by the media. But it only resulted in us stumbling through life, grasping for that elusive fulfillment and satisfaction. We believed that “somewhere out there”; or perhaps “somewhere over the rainbow” we would really apprehend, instead of just pretend, concerning the object of our hope. But even at its best, “falling in love” was just a Band-Aid on wounds suffered from falling into many other emotional traps. But we thought the media was the medicine to satisfy our emotional needs; or at least provide a way, although vicariously, to interact with others with similar needs. But we ignored the admonition of the other famous singer that, no matter how hard he tried, “he couldn’t get no satisfaction”. Many are that way; that’s why the divorce rate is so high. However, the best way to have a happy marriage is, don’t depend on the marriage to make you happy!
Is the Alarm Clock Loud Enough?
So, was this the best that life has to offer, or were we fooled, deceived; taken advantage of because of our naivety; and also having a host of bad examples to follow? As time went by, some begin to realize that the trip that we were on did not lead to a satisfactory destination. This is still the case in spite of the deluge of technological advances. Dissatisfaction seizes many at the last click of the mouse, or the final squeeze of the controller. But still, too many are opting to stay on the trail, blinding the mind to reality with music, videos, alcohol, drugs, the party life, sex, amusement parks, and more video games. After all, it looks good on TV. So like-minded individuals gather anywhere they can, in vain efforts to convince each other that life is not really that bad. The safety in numbers syndrome!
Some Are Fully Awake; Others Are Yawning
After many years, some gatherings would begin to shrink in size. Some would wonder out loud “whatever happened to Jim, he doesn’t gather with us anymore?” Another may say, “I hear he started going to church!” Then yet another would say, “He doesn’t have to be such a snob, not hanging out with us anymore.” But then, the quiet ones in the group would wonder in silence, “This life is not as much fun as it used to be. What we used to do to relieve boredom, isn’t working. Besides, there’s the nuclear bomb!”
Time Is Good, If You Use It for Good
So, you see, time is at work here. Given enough time, a wise person will finally get the message. The message is, “All the world is a stage, and we are merely the players (or actors). Eventually, given enough time, our “act” will be forced to come to an end; then we must exit from the stage, and be thrust into eternity! Therefore, while we still have a chance to be on the stage of this world, we must change our act; adopt one that has everlasting rewards! And it is not about going to church, it’s about coming to Jesus Christ!
Therefore, JESUS IS THE ANSWER for happiness in this life, and eternal life in the “hereafter”! After we have the wonderful experience of being “Born-Again”, the Holy Spirit will continually teach and guide us on our spiritual journey; as we are being prepared for our act, or role, in God’s eternal kingdom.
